Marta Pérez García was selected for la Campechada 2014 (a festival commemorating the work of graphic artists from Puerto Rico) dedicated to Myrna Báez.
This woodcut is inspired by Myrna Báez's piece The Red Plantains. I chose this piece by Baez since, amid the mountains, on the horizon, I see a female dead body; there is a feeling of silence and loneliness. At that moment, I was mourning my sister's death and decided to use my iconography. The fragmented character of this woodcut alludes to different sources: Myrna Baez's comment on the content of my work reminded her of a Soap opera; you can develop many stories out of just one. I was also feeling so broken inside, and I felt echoing the situation of Puerto Rico, of our colonial legacy of all those fractures.
